Commentary for I Chronicles 16:42
וְעִמָּהֶם֩ הֵימָ֨ן וִֽידוּת֜וּן חֲצֹצְר֤וֹת וּמְצִלְתַּ֙יִם֙ לְמַשְׁמִיעִ֔ים וּכְלֵ֖י שִׁ֣יר הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וּבְנֵ֥י יְדוּת֖וּן לַשָּֽׁעַר׃
and with them Heman and Jeduthun, to sound aloud with trumpets and cymbals, and with instruments for the songs of God; and the sons of Jeduthun to be at the gate.
Rashi on I Chronicles
were [appointed] over the gate like “for gate sentries”; and in the fortieth year of the kingdom of the house of David, they made them the heads of the singers, as it is written (below 25:3): “Of Jeduthun: the sons of Jeduthun, etc., six alongside, etc., who prophesied by the thanksgiving and praise to the Lord.”
